Library alive!

Last week I was in Houston for a few days, visiting my daughter. While she attended a meeting, I spent some time in the closest library which was at Rice University. It was a nice library with plenty of comfortable seating, computer access, Wifi, and cool book sculptures that I'll post some pictures of soon. But as I sat there in my comfortable chair, something was missing. Something that is in abundance at our library.

I missed the hustle and bustle of people using the library. I realize it's summer and not a lot of students were around and the ones there were diligently studying or surfing, but it still seemed too quiet.

I realize that sometimes when babies cry or young people fuss, our library seems noisier than what is comfortable, but most of the time it's filled with activity. Whether it's people looking for a good book, using computers, reading newspapers, or attending programs, the library feels alive with users. And that's something I really like. So bring on the people! We'll have a good time helping you enjoy the library.

As and avid library user and mother of two young library lovers, I appreciate the fact that you like the "alive feeling" our library has. I try to keep our noise to a minimum but I also want the children to be comfortable and excited about the library. I agree with you, I would rather have an active library than a quiet one!
