Wear your hard hats!

The long awaited day is at hand. Remodeling starts for the Mango Tree Coffee Shop on Monday, May 18.

What can you expect?

You may hear some drilling noises as they cut through the floor to connect the sewer and water.

You may see workers moving cabinets up the elevator.

You may smell some paint smells, although we've specified low VOC paint so the odor shouldn't be too strong.

The projected completion date is the end of May, but as with all construction, that date is flexible.

We're excited and hope you will be too.

I think it is sad that the public did not have an opportunity to bid on whom the vendor would be for the coffee shop...after all, this is a public building and the public should have a chance to submit bids for vendors.

Back in the summer of 2007 we queried local vendors to determine if anyone was interested in running a coffee shop for us. We had no response from anyone.

Because there was no interest the previous summer, we were pleased when Harsha approached us in the summer of 2008. She presented a business plan and after much discussion, was selected to operate the shop. The operation of the shop does require a significant investment of capital by the vendor. I was amazed at the cost of grinders, steamers, coffee makers, etc.

Bids for this venture are not required by state law, particularly when there was no interest the previous summer.

Thank you for your interest in the Library.
