This week (September 26-October 3) we observe Banned Books Week: Celebrating the Freedom to Read. This annual event reminds us that, while not every book is intended for every reader, each of us has the right to decide for ourselves what to read, listen to or view. It is a right that we should not take for granted.
The posters on our display wall reflect some of the titles that have been challenged or banned somewhere in the United States in the past. To see a list of items challenged or banned in the United States recently, please ask at the check out desk.
Banned Books Week is sponsored by the American Booksellers Association, the American Booksellers Foundation for Free Expression, the American Library Association, the Association of American Publishers, the American Society of Journalists and Authors, and the National Association of College Stores, and is endorsed by the Library of Congress Center for the Book.
Protect your right to read.
